High School Grading System
Laurel High School operates on
a continuous progress system in which a student may work both
independantly and in class, earning credit for work, day by
day, as it is completed.
Our system is based on work actually completed,
in terms of class equivalents (or points).
One class equivalent is:
- A 45 minute class, with participation, or
- Outside work equivalent to a class. Outside work may
be for a class, an independant project, or a business or a community
organization.
In each subject area (English, history, etc) and over
a period of time, a student accumulates class-equivalents (or points)
until a credit is earned. A student may choose to consider a credit completed
after earning 170 class-equivalents for a grade of C or the student may
choose to continue earning c.e.'s to achieve a B (205 c.e.'s) or an A
(240 c.e.'s).
1 year = 35 weeks (approx.)
4 years = 140 weeks

Progress:
Students are expected to earn at least 35 c.e.'s per week. Students who
fall behind are asked to earn additional c.e.'s per week to ensure that
they may graduate on time.
Normal progress requires for students to earn 6.5 credits per year (i.e.,
1105 c.e.'s to achieve a C average; 1333 c.e.'s to achieve a B average;
1560 c.e.'s to achieve an A average).
A student able to earn more than 6.5 credits per year may, with family
agreement, graduate early. A student unable to earn 6.5 credits per year
may, with family agreement, continue to earn c.e.'s until the number of
desired c.e.'s have been achieved.
